Mike Willbanks’ Blog: Performance Tuning Overview

Posted on Monday 31 December 2007

Mike Willbanks has posted an introduction he’s written up giving some helpful hints at tuning your servers and PHP applications for performance.

The focus of this post is not to show performance related items to specific PHP frameworks since many bottlenecks actually apply before running the framework itself that should certainly be solved up front. Therefore in this posting I attempt to look at simple items that can be deployed in order to produce finer tuned systems.

He talks about a few different aspects:

PHP Performance Tuning (opcode caching, apc file priming, (more…)

Things to Watch During Your Website Copywriting Tasks

Things to Watch During Your Website Copywriting TasksWriting by Nick Stamoulis on Thursday, 27 of March , 2008 at 9:57 am

Website copywriting and Search Engine Optimization is not easy to do. But if you decide that you are up to the task be careful of the following things they are a dead turn off for prospects. Missing these things will make your visitor a prospect for your competition versus a covert for your site!

1. Double-check for errors-nothing is more embarrassing than finding a typo in your copy after its been published and viewed by the public. Worse still is the transposing of numbers. We all do both but double check and make sure that they stay in the email to your friend not in your sales copy.

The challenge has been met! - Marco Tabini

Posted on Monday 31 December 2007

Topbit, from “not too far from London” has written in with the correct solution to yesterday’s challenge.
The solution was not difficult to get at—which means that I need to come up with a more creative problem for the next time. Each group of four numbers indicated, respectively, an ISBN number (for either php|architect’s Guide to Programming Zend Framework or php|architect’s Zend PHP 5 Certification Study Guide), followed by a page number, line number and word number.
The six groups of numbers spell “Tell me that PHP Architect rules.” Lame, I know, but it’s difficult to come up with (more…)

Not a world champion .. - Lukas Smith

Posted on Monday 31 December 2007

.. well actually I was part of the Swiss national team that once again became a world champion in ultimate spirit, since we won the spirit prize in the mixed division. In the “normal” rankings we finished 8th out of 11. But at least we won the direct game against the only other nation representing the Alps: We beat Austria in an exciting opening match 9:8, even though they then went on the finish 3rd in the overall ranking. In other news I made it back home safely from Brazil, enjoyed Christmas and New Years Eve with family and friends back in Berlin and started my new job today at Liip. Yes, new job and all. The people checking out the schedule for PHP Quebec might have already noticed that I was listed as working for Liip a few weeks ago.

30 Days To Google-Rank? How About One Week for Search Engine Optimization?Writing by Nick Stamoulis on Wednesday, 5 of March , 2008 at 9:41 am

This article by Frederick Townes has some great stuff in it, but you don’t have to wait 30 days to achieve Google rank. You can do it in less than a week. Here are some real gems from Frederick’s first 25 of 50 tips for getting ranked at Google within 30 days:

50. Build your own or move to Wordpress. Wordpress is a blog platform that’s open source (free), robust, extensible and easy to use. Add Feedburner, which equips site owners to broadcast RSS feeds and develop user metrics. Next, synch up Google Analytics and a sitemap plug-in to simplify populating the blog and developing useful, actionable metrics. Also, make sure your blog is pinging www.technoratti.com and other social-ranking sites like www.digg.com.
